Welcome to the website of Cultural Heritage Administration.
The 21st century is an era of culture. Korea and the world have made remarkable political, social and economic achievements throughout history. The achievements now help us move on to the era of culture based on the essence of wisdom we earned through the efforts to meet various material and physical requirements for us to maintain human dignity.
The era of culture has not come by chance. Culture is a demand of our time and a mission history has given to the entire global community. Culture is a key factor to make us “more human” in the true sense of the word. There should be at its center “diversity and value” because it needs to be equally distributed to all people. We need an open, flexible attitude to equip ourselves with cultural mind. We need a shift in our way of thinking to be more cultural, and break the conceptual paradigm of the past which was built on the logic of power.
We should open our eyes for the new concepts of the new era which are in a new dimension. We will be able to see a right direction leading to the era of culture on a higher level and increase our capability to face the new era when we keep trying hard to find new views on the question, “What is culture?”
We are now facing a great task to lay a firm foundation for the cultural prosperity for this country to relish.
It is time for us to give vigor to the cultural heritage created by and passed down from ancestors, and share the cultural capability and creativity of Korean people with the rest of the global community. That is why I plan to focus my attention on the two missions for us to achieve, that is, preservation and making good use of the Korean cultural heritage.
As a new chief of Cultural Heritage Administration, I was greatly moved by the CHA staff for their devoted effort to fulfill their mission regarding the Korean cultural heritage despite the difficult situation around them. I am fully aware of the challenges they need to deal with through their work that encompasses the entire spectrum of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
Now entering the era of hope which will be characterized by happiness in people’s life, creative economy, and cultural prosperity, we are given a golden opportunity to find and develop the cultural DNA permeated in the depth of our everyday life. Should we miss such a great chance that will lead us to the world’s central stage and become one of the most powerful cultural nation? Our cultural heritage is not only a source of wealth for the entire Korean people but priceless treasures to be shared with the rest of the international community.
Dear visitors!
We need to be proud of the cultural heritage passed down to us and try hard to understand its true value.
Creativity and imagination are two key factors to nurture culture into prosperity. I earnestly hope that we all will be able to commit ourselves to creativity and culture and play a key role in the effort to nurture this nation into a global cultural leader.
Finally, I promise that the entire staff of CHA, including me, will try our utmost to help people move closer to their cultural heritage and that culture becomes life, and life culture.
