Thymus magnus is a tree which is low and spreads branches on its trunk.
It is deciduous.
The name, Baengnihyang(Baengni means hundred miles and hyang means the scent of the flower in Korean.) means the scent of the flowers is strong enough to spread over a hundred miles.The area of Nari-dong is the only basin in Ulleungdo Island.
The stock of Ulleung Gukhwa and thymus magnus at Nari-dong is located on the hill on the way to Seonginbong Peak.
It makes a small population where there is no forest.
Since the community of Ulleung Gukhwa and thymus magnus at Nari-dong is rare in Korea, it is designated and protected as a natural monument.
